IOS 16.5.1 and iPadOS 16.5.1 also fix a bug that prevented charging with the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. It’s possible the exploits can’t affect them, or perhaps Apple will release updates for them shortly as well. Neither tvOS nor HomePod Software are included at the moment. macOS, iOS, and iPadOS also receive fixes for a WebKit vulnerability, and iOS 15.7.7 and iPadOS 15.7.7 plug yet another WebKit vulnerability that has presumably been addressed in newer versions but afflicts versions prior to 15.7. If shellfish are shown to contain high levels of E. viruses) in shellfish exist, these have yet to be incorporated into EU legislation due to the lack of a robust evidence base and disagreements over what new standards should be introduced ( Lees and Cen WG6 TAG4, 2010 Hassard et al., 2017 EFSA, 2019). While methods for the detection and quantification of pathogens (e.g., Vibrio spp. However, studies have indicated that monitoring fecal indicator bacteria in shellfish may be a poor indicator of water pollution and the risk of human exposure to pathogens from consuming shellfish ( Gerba et al., 1979 Romalde et al., 2002 Younger et al., 2018). For example, within the European Union (EU), shellfish harvesting areas are classified according to the concentration of fecal indicator bacteria ( Escherichia coli) as designated in Annex II of EU Regulation 854/2004 ( EU, 2004). This has led to the formulation of legislation based on the measurement of fecal indicator bacteria ( EU, 2020). Therefore, raw and undercooked shellfish can act as vectors of infectious pathogens which can pose a serious risk to human health ( Flannery et al., 2014 Santos-Ferreira et al., 2020).īacterial species are traditionally used as indicators of fecal contamination of agricultural products, shellfish and shellfish waters ( Garcia et al., 2020). In many parts of the world, shellfish are grown in areas exposed to treated or untreated wastewater which may also contain human pathogens (e.g., Cryptosporidium, hepatitis A/E, norovirus Razafimahefa et al., 2020). Microbiological contamination of molluscan shellfish can readily occur in areas where coastal waters are polluted with sewage effluent, and agricultural run-off, such that shellfish accumulate large amounts of bacterial or viral pathogens ( Bosch et al., 1995 Burkhardt and Calci, 2000 Winterbourn et al., 2016). Sustainable shellfish production, however, relies on the presence of clean water that is free from both organic and inorganic pollutants ( Mohebbi-Nozar et al., 2014 Blanco, 2018 Enuneku et al., 2018). In addition, shellfish consumption is becoming an increasingly important part of the human diet and is seen as an area for expansion and economic growth in many countries ( Oehlenschlager, 2012 Silver, 2014 Bostock et al., 2016). Globally, 18 million tons of marine molluscs are harvested each year with an estimated value of $35 billion, comprising 9% of the value of fisheries worldwide ( Wijsman et al., 2019 FAO, 2020). We conclude that current EU standards for evaluating microbiological risk in shellfish are inadequate for protecting consumers against exposure to human norovirus GII found in polluted marine waters. coli from shellfish tissue, but failed to eradicate NoV GII RNA. Depuration (72 h) in clean water proved partially successful at removing both pathogenic and non-pathogenic E. All three microbiological indicators accumulated rapidly in the mussels, reaching close to maximum concentration within 3 h of exposure, demonstrating that short CSO discharges pose an immediate threat to shellfish harvesting areas. We simulated water contamination after a point-source release from a combined sewer overflow (CSO) where untreated wastewater is released directly into the coastal zone. coli, NoV GII) after exposure of mussels ( Mytilus edulis) to water contaminated with human feces. coli O157:H7 and norovirus GII (NoV GII) RNA were evaluated using a combination of culture-based ( E. To evaluate the robustness of this approach, the accumulation, retention, and depuration of non-pathogenic E. The fecal indicator organism (FIO) Escherichia coli is frequently used as a general indicator of sewage contamination and for evaluating the success of shellfish cleaning (depuration) processes. For example, MindNode 6 finally has a focus feature. They seemed to be ahead of MindNode when it came to adding features. I clicked through to older posts going to years back to see what they’ve added. Just going through their blog and seeing what they’ve announced over the years has shown that they’ve been actively developing it for years now. The iThoughts folks have been busy as well. I haven’t found anything in MindNode 6 that makes me want to switch from iThoughts. But it might be overwhelming for someone who just wants an easy to use task manager. But a power user will appreciate OmniFocus 3. In the same light, Things 3 is a very capable app and is probably the easy choice for many users. iThoughts has more power and features that many users might not care about. Things 3 has a beautiful interface and will feel comfortable for users who bought into that ecosystem. I feel this is like the Things 3 vs OmniFocus 3 argument. iThoughts has more features that might not mean much to others. If you’re looking for basic mind map features, go with either one. iThoughts has a slideshow mode if you want to do presentations as well. iThoughts has some project management features such as cost and effort analysis, task progress (not started, 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, done) that separates itself from MindNode. Something like export to OmniFocus and Quick Entry screen gives the nod to MindNode. The only remaining things that differentiate between the two apps are special case scenarios. Most of the basic mind map features are there. I did download MindNode 6 and have been running it through for a couple of days now. iThoughts was further along the road and MindNode was just a babe in the woods at version 2.Īn aggressive development schedule has moved MindNode much closer to iThoughts in terms of having the main features in a mind map. I was faced with this choice a few years ago. iThoughts has the ability to work special categories of notes such as tasks with due-dates, resources (people in orgs), cost calculating nodes, and project progress (for nodes that have tasks).Īnyone else have experience with these two and if so, any thoughts on how they compare? I’d heard a lot of good things about MindNode and expected that after I tried it I’d be inclined to purchase but after my initial exploration I’m actually thinking I’d be better off sticking with iThoughts. An example, the project I’m mapping is a collaborative local history project which includes several small non-profits, various resources being digitized, a podcast and a website where the materials will be catalogued. With iThoughts there was more to learn and more that I could do. After an hour of using them I felt like I’d gotten a solid handle on how they each work (very similar) but also had the sense that I’d reached the limit of MindNode’s feature set. It’s got support for markdown in the notes for nodes, the ability to import a greater variety of objects, and far more export/sharing options. Also, two finger tap to undo is a nice touch and a feature I’m coming to like thanks to Procreate and the Affinity apps.īut iThoughts seems to be the more capable app. It’s also got newly announced support for second, external USB C monitors which might be nice for some. MindNode is better in the area of visual style with a couple of added features. I spent an hour with each app and came away with the impression that iThoughts is a more powerful app in almost every way. Yesterday I saw the new version of MindNode was released so I downloaded it for the free 2 week trial. As it happens I’ve got a new project coming up that would probably benefit from actually diving in with this kind of app. I’d previously purchased iThoughts and used it a little but my projects don’t often require that kind of app. Each world type, from feral wilderness to ruined urban sprawl, creates a strong sense of place with clever use of color and environmental detail. While they may sometimes be dull to play on, Planetfall's randomized maps are never dull to look at. Even when playing on the Experienced difficulty, I never had enough issues with unrest to actually have to deal with riots – whether or not I was paying a lot of attention to my happiness. And when you dive into the details, the fine tuning available with manual population management doesn't even feel that impactful. It gives me the impression of something I need to do in the background to support my armies, rather than an interesting challenge in itself. I'm not against streamlining logistics management in a game with so much going on, but managing my colonies almost felt hands-off at times. Base building is fairly straightforward, with a few decisions to make about how to specialize different sectors that come under your control. The things I typically found myself doing on the campaign map weren't as interesting as the things I was doing in battle, either. That takes some of the inherent excitement out of progressing down the tech tree. I never got that powerful feeling of upgrading my spearmen to swordsmen in Civilization, or kitting out an XCOM squad with plasma weapons for the first time. Later-game elite units can pick up this slack somewhat, but even they often felt more like specialists than straight upgrades. Units can be upgraded with up to three offense, defense, and support modules as well as gain experience over time, but a unit with three late-game mods doesn’t do a lot more damage than one with three early game mods, they just have more roles available. It’s true that almost every node of military research expands your toolbox, but it's mostly side-grades for what you already have. While the unit variety available through the tech tree is strong (not even factoring in the wild and wonderful neutral units you can recruit on each map to change things up further), I felt I was missing a sense of meaningful progression at times. I loved how each army forced me to change my thinking and develop new doctrines. The Kir'Ko couldn't be further from that, dishing out high melee damage and hive-mind abilities that encourage you to attack in clusters. The Vanguard feel like a pretty typical XCOM squad, relying on firing lines and overlapping fields of overwatch to gain ranged superiority. Other hybrid 4X games could learn a lot from Planetfall in that department.Īnd the battles are a lot of fun, too – especially considering how different and interesting each of the factions are once the plasma starts to fly. This is long enough to build some excitement and allow for fun and tactical decision-making, but quick enough that each turn doesn't get bogged down with several XCOM missions' worth of combat. Developer Triumph Studios has triumphed in striking a tricky pacing balance, with battles usually lasting around three to five turns. On the bright side, getting to the end has a great flow whether you’re on story or random maps. There are a variety of victory conditions, from political unification to deploying a doomsday device, but without those meaningful storylines steering me toward them I just wasn’t as excited to get there. The one downside is that once I looked beyond these hand-crafted scenarios (of which there are 13 in all and take anywhere between one and several hours to complete) the random maps that make up the meat of Planetfall felt lacking in comparison. I found these to be the most entertaining part of Planetfall, challenging me to explore ancient ruins, get to know named and voiced characters, chase forbidden secrets, and navigate sometimes complex politics that often pit different ideologies within the same base faction against one another. You can get to know each of the factions through a handful of well-written, quest-driven story scenarios set on pre-made maps that help flesh out their place in the galaxy. Older students begin to differentiate between weather and climate. In this article, we’ve highlighted lessons and activities that help elementary students develop an understanding of weather phenomena, identify weather patterns, and compare and contrast weather around the world. Teachers of upper-elementary students may want to introduce climate change at a very basic level, and focus mainly on simple actions that students (and their families) can take to reduce their carbon footprint. These concepts, along with knowledge about weather and climate, will prepare students for the more complex principles that will be introduced in later years. In the elementary grades, students can begin constructing a basic understanding of seasonal changes, biomes and ecosystems, the water cycle, and the role of solar energy in heating Earth’s atmosphere, land, and water.
